New photos :)

Mark and his cousin Sal spent the day together yesterday (May 26, 2010) - and visited the same diner twice in one day. These boys need a good woman to cook them some meals! LOL

And...oh Marky. After telling us of, not one, but TWO parking mishaps/fines in one day....Derek snaps a pic of you mangling your parking space marker at DWTS. lol Methinks someone might need a few parking refresher courses. Let's just blame it on London. He learned how to drive on the other side of the street. It must be messing with this brain. ;) LOL. Here is Mark's "parking masterpiece":

Mark talking about lingerie ad

Mark and some of the other dancers talk about a lingerie ad that was banned by ABC:

I haven't seen the ad either, so I don't know if it's too 'racy' - but honestly, it can't be any worse than some of the rumba's I've seen on DWTS (Julianne, I'm looking at you and your black lace). ;)  I actually think DWTS needs to tone down the costumes a little.  Shawn had to wear very conservative outfits, yet she looked gorgeous and sexy. You don't have to be in minimal fabric to be sexy. The mystery is sexy. But whatever, who am I, right? I think I'm becoming a minority in a world full of people who only think about sex. *sigh*

UPDATE: here is the ad. I suppose the end is why it got banned? Since she's basically going out in public in her underwear. The rest of the ad is fine though. What do you think?

Week(s) in Review - April 5 - April 18

Well, I didn't get a Sunday review done last week, so this one will be for the last two weeks. :)

April 5th was an acoustic show at The Mint and was a good one, from what I heard.  Christopher Hall of E! Entertainment posted a picture of Mark and Chelsie at the show, which I posted here

Also on that page is a picture Mark posted of him and the other musicians from the April 6th DWTS result show. Mark played Flamingo guitar with two other musicians while Derek and Chelsie danced a Paso Doble.  It was a wonderful performance.  I posted a video and screencaps.

On April 7th, we got a blog from Mark at Hollyscoop.  They claimed that Mark would blog every week, even though he was out of the competition, but we have yet to get a blog for week 4 of DWTS.  The blog posted on April 7th was for week 3 (even though it says week 2 in the blog). I'll be keeping a lookout for an update to Mark's blog; hopefully he updates it this week. :)

On April 8th, Mark tweeted that it was the first day off the crutches. :) Gettin' better!

On April 11th, Mark was a guest on the Reality Cares radio show.  It is an hour long show.  Mark talked about DWTS, his music, his uncle's suicide, and the AFSP. http://latalkradio.com/images/Reality-041110.mp3

ChicaGirl magazine tweeted that they were going to interview Mark at his big show on April 12th.  According to their website, the interview will be available in Issue 11.  I'll post a link when it is available to read. :)

April 12th, Mark did a Twitterview or Twinterview (call it what you want) with Wonderwall MSN.  I posted the transcript of the interview here.

Also on April 12th, Mark posted a great pic of him and his dad, that I totally forgot to post on the blog:

The Mint show on April 12th was a sold-out, full band show.  It was treated as his album release party, red carpet and all.  The event was called "An Evening with Mark Ballas".  Check out this post for some pictures from the event.  Mark also posted a pic of the stage from one of the rehearsals for the big Mint performance, found in this post - which also contains pics of Mark's Vibe kids.  They performed on DWTS on April 13th.

Check out the Vibe dance team's performance from April 13th here.  There is also some footage of the kids rehearsing with Mark in this video (screencaps here as well).

On Friday, April 9th, E! posted an article with quotes from Mark stating that his knee needed a twitter account and then this weekend (April 16th), his knee began twittering (MBallasKnee). And then the other body parts started showing up to the party.  His shoulder is tweeting (MBLeftShoulder), as well as Cheryl's ring and various body parts belong to Derek Hough (Hair, Abs). Be sure to check them out, it's pretty hilarious. :)  Mark has been chatting with his knee and shoulder this weekend, which has been rather humorous. :)  It all started with Evan's Toe though. ;)

Mark has been posting a few pictures of his knee over the past week. I think he's getting bored not being able to dance. ;)

Mark says "Hot Wire my Heart" is the name of a new song...but right now it seems like it's "hot wire my knee"

Doing exercises to get strong again:

The knee got to wear some new jeans:

Since Derek's hair started tweeting as well, the knee and hair decided to post a picture together:
all photos of the knee copyright Mark Ballas, 2010

I think the pain killers have made Marky a little loopy. =P

Screencaps from the Paso

Here are the screencaps from Derek and Chelsie's Paso, for which Mark played Spanish guitar (April 6, 2010).  I only capped the shots where Mark appears, so it's not the whole dance. But there were a few cool shots where Mark is far in the background, but he's between Derek and Chelsie. Wonderful camera angles for this dance. :)

Screencaps are after the cut:

Mark backstage with ABC7 - week 3

Mark talking to ABC7 backstage at DWTS after the week 3 results show:

MalagueƱa by Ernesto Lecuona

The song played by Mark, Jeremy, and Song for Derek and Chelsie's Paso Doble on the results show of week 3 (April 6, 2010) is called MalagueƱa.  It's a lovely arrangement of the piece, and many probably recognized the tune.  This tune, though very well known as a guitar peice, was actually written as the finale of a piano suite by Ernesto Lecuona.  Lecuona was the son of a Canarian father (Spanish) and a Cuban mother.

For much of the last century, Ernesto Lecuona's piano suite Andalucƭa was the hidden source of a variety of musical compositions and performances. Its fiery finale, MalagueƱa, exists in several arrangements for guitar, became a popular song with a text by Marian Banks, and showed up for years on easy listening LPs by the likes of Andre Kostelanetz and the 101 Strings. Other pieces from the suite also appeared with added English texts, and no doubt Lecuona himself popularized the music during his years in New York as leader of the band Lecuona's Cuban Boys. But the original work, written around 1927, was largely forgotten outside of Cuba until pianist Thomas Tirino began to revive the music of the "Cuban Gershwin" in the late '90s. What Tirino revealed, to growing acclaim at first centered on South Florida, was a splendid six-movement concert showpiece that fused dynamic pianism rooted in Romantic virtuosity, Spanish and gypsy folk rhythms, and Lecuona's own unerring melodic sense. The six movements evoke various Spanish sounds and scenes, alternating lyrical pieces with dance rhythms topped by spectacular runs. "Gitanerƭas" is a flamenco-influenced piece, while "Alhambra," an evocation of Spain's Moorish-era palace, is one of several pieces that reveals Lecuona's familiarity with impressionist idioms. All in all, Andalucƭa (also known as the "Spanish Suite" or "Suite EspaƱola") fully lives up to the Gershwin comparison: it is classical piano music enlivened by popular vigor and informed by a distinctive compositional intelligence.
